Li Keqiang Meets with President Sergio Mattarella of Italy

On the afternoon of February 23, 2017, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with President Sergio Mattarella of Italy, who was in China for a state visit.

Li Keqiang expressed that Italy is an important cooperation partner of China in Europe. Both countries enjoy a long-standing friendship. Yesterday, President Xi Jinping held fruitful talks with Mr. President. China is willing to, together with Italy, enhance exchanges, consolidate mutual trust, strive to push forward practical cooperation, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and reinforce coordination in international and regional affairs, so as to push bilateral relations for new development and better achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the Chinese side stands ready to work with Italy to deeply align development strategies, well make medium and long-term development cooperation plans, advance a sustained and balanced growth in two-way trade and investment, strengthen exchanges in innovation policies as well as cooperation in production, study and research, expand cooperation in third-party markets and enlarge the exchange scope of overseas students and interns. It is hoped that the Italian side could play a positive role in promoting the EU to comprehensively and completely fulfill its commitments in the Protocol on China's Accession to the World Trade Organization, and push China-EU relations for healthy and stable development.

Sergio Mattarella noted that Italy and China enjoy profound traditional friendship and share extensive consensus in many aspects as well as great cooperation potential with broader prospects. Italy is ready to, together with China, enhance high-level exchanges, formulate new action plans for economic cooperation, expand cooperation in infrastructure, science, technology, environmental protection, innovation and other areas, and propel bilateral trade and investment, so as to elevate bilateral relations and cooperation to new highs on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Italy-China diplomatic relations in 2020. The Italian side is willing to play a positive role in facilitating EU-China relations.
