Wang Yi Meets with Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger of the US

On April 27, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in New York with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger of the US.

Wang Yi firstly conveyed warm greetings from Chinese leaders to Dr. Henry Kissinger. Wang Yi expressed that President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump held a historic meeting in Mar-a-Lago not long ago, and made plans and charted the course for bilateral relations, achieving a sound beginning of China-US relations on a new starting point. Both sides should devote themselves to enhancing mutual trust, carrying out cooperation in broad issues and being long-term partners for mutual benefit and win-win results, so as to jointly safeguard world peace and stability.

Henry Kissinger expressed that people from all walks of life in the US and leaders of various countries that he contacted were satisfied with the meeting in Mar-a-Lago between the two heads of state. They believed that it was completely a successful meeting in a friendly atmosphere and that both sides agreed with each other on many issues. As two major countries, although the US and China have differences or competitions in some areas, both countries could fully become cooperation partners and achieve common prosperity, which requires both sides to show wisdom and take actions.

Both sides also conducted in-depth exchanges on the issues of common concern including the Korean Peninsula situation.
