Xi Jinping welcomed Viktor Orban to visit China and attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Xi Jinping pointed out that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary 68 years ago, bilateral relations have always maintained sound development. The establishment of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership reflects the reality of China-Hungary relations and will create vast space for bilateral cooperation. The two sides should take it as an opportunity to promote the continuous and in-depth development of bilateral relations. As comprehensive strategic partners, the two sides should adhere to mutual respect, closely align the "Belt and Road" initiative with Hungary's Eastern Opening policy, and enhance top-level planning for all-round cooperation. Both sides should constantly explore the potential for cooperation, continue pushing forward major projects such as the Budapest-Belgrade railway project, expand financial cooperation, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and strengthen cooperation in culture, education, tourism, and localities.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China firmly supports the development of the European Union (EU). The cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC) lifted the overall level of China's relations with these countries. China is willing to work with the Hungarian side to continuously push forward China-CEEC cooperation as well as the development of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.

Viktor Orban said that Hungary-China relations enjoy a long-standing history and Hungary is willing to work with China to push forward bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership. Hungary highly appreciates China's economic and social development, especially the achievements in poverty alleviation, and believes that China's market economy status is indisputable. Hungary is committed to deepening cooperation with China in infrastructure, agriculture and other fields, and supports CEEC-China cooperation and the development of EU-China relations. The "Belt and Road" construction is an important opportunity for all countries, and Hungary is willing to actively participate in the relevant cooperation.

After the meeting, both sides issued the Joint Statement between the People's Republic of China and Hungary on Establishing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
