2017/05/13

On the morning of May 13, 2017, Premier Li Keqiang held talks at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary, who was in China for an official visit and the attendance at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF).

Li Keqiang stated that China and Hungary enjoy profound traditional friendship, with firm consolidation of political mutual trust and rapid development of bilateral relations. China stands ready to work with Hungary to continuously stick to the principle of mutual respect and equal treatment, and take the establishment of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership as a new staring point to further consolidate mutual trust, expand cooperation, and deepen communication, so as to create a broader and brighter future for China-Hungary relations.

Li Keqiang pointed out that against the backdrop of sluggish growth of global trade, China-Hungary bilateral trade has achieved a double-digit growth, which indicates that China-Hungary cooperation enjoys profound foundation and huge potential. It is hoped that both sides can focus on the key projects under the "Belt and Road" construction and the "16+1 cooperation" framework, push forward cooperation in major projects like Belgrade-Budapest Railway for new substantial progress, promote balanced trade development, actively conduct trilateral cooperation, and foster new growth points of cooperation. The two sides should also strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges and further consolidate the public opinion foundation for bilateral relations.

Li Keqiang emphasized that Hungary is an important member state of the European Union (EU), and has always actively participated in and supported the "16+1 cooperation". The "16+1 cooperation" supplements and promotes the development of China-EU relations, and vice versa. China supports Hungary to host the 6th China-CEEC Summit, and stands ready to make joint efforts with various parties to inject new impetus into the deepening of "16+1 cooperation" and the development of China-EU relations.

Viktor Orban expressed that Hungary and China enjoy traditional friendship and frequent high-level exchanges, as well as smooth progress of practical cooperation. Hungary is willing to join hands with China to strengthen cooperation in such fields as infrastructure, finance, agriculture and food, and shipping, accelerate the construction of Belgrade-Budapest Railway, carry out third-party market cooperation, and expand educational exchanges, so as to create a new future for Hungary-China friendly cooperative relations. Hungary stands ready to well hold the CEEC-China Summit this year, and further promote the "16+1 cooperation" for new achievements.

Before the talks, Li Keqiang held a welcoming ceremony for Viktor Orban at the square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People. Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Ma Biao and others attended the ceremony.

After the talks, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Viktor Orban witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents in fields such as small and medium enterprises and science and technology.

In the afternoon the same day, Viktor Orban laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes.
