Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai of Thailand

On July 24, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Bangkok with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai of Thailand.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Thailand are one family, and China has been Thailand's sincere partner and friendly neighbor. No matter how the international and domestic situation changes, China-Thailand relationship always maintains its stability and strategic significance. China is willing to steadfastly pursue friendly policy toward Thailand and continue to be Thailand's good brother as close as families and good partner of economic take-off, transformation and upgrading. China welcomes King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun paying a state visit to China at an early date. China has extended an invitation to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to participate in a dialogue among BRICS members, emerging market economies and developing countries to be held in Xiamen this September. It is believed that under joint efforts of both sides, China-Thailand relations will continue to inherit the past and usher in the future, forge ahead and make innovation, so as to enable bilateral relations to be better and better, as well as closer and closer.

Wang Yi stated that the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" has opened up vast development space for cooperation between the two countries. Thailand, located in the land and sea intersection strip along the "Belt and Road" route, will undoubtedly become an important cooperation partner of China in the construction process. In the next stage, the two sides can enhance China-Thailand railway cooperation. Both sides should strive for an early launch of the project, so as to achieve in-depth integration of Thailand with China's grand market and promote Thailand to be the hub of regional connectivity. China is ready to actively participate in the construction of Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor, help with the country's economic transformation and upgrading, and open up the new platform of the "Belt and Road" cooperation. Meanwhile, China and Thailand should strengthen cooperation in digital economy, and innovation, and expand new areas for cooperation in e-commerce and aerospace.

Wang Yi said that the China-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) relations are the most energetic, productive and potential ones. It is hoped that China and the ASEAN could enhance the docking of the "Belt and Road" initiative and ASEAN's development strategies, complete negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) at an early date, jointly safeguard the stable and sound situation in the South China Sea, and forge an upgraded version of China-ASEAN strategic partnership, so as to promote the construction of a closer China-ASEAN community of shared destiny.

Don Pramudwinai expressed that China is a good friend and a comprehensive strategic partner of Thailand. Thailand-China relations have always been constructive, and bilateral practical and active cooperation has brought well-beings and benefits to the two peoples. Thailand thanks China for inviting the Thai royal family to visit China. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha hopes to attend the dialogue among BRICS members, emerging market economies and developing countries at invitation. Thailand is willing to continuously maintain close exchanges with China at all levels, and further enhance bilateral people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Don Pramudwinai said that Thailand actively supports the "Belt and Road" initiative, and congratulates China on the complete success of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. The Initiative not only benefits China, but also brings benefit to the region and the whole world. Thailand hopes for the effective integration between the "Belt and Road" initiative and the building of the ASEAN community, and will jointly work with China to speed up the promotion of China-Thailand railway construction under this framework, so as to drive development of regions along the railway. Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor can be an important component of the "Belt and Road" construction, and Thailand welcomes Chinese enterprises to actively participate in the Corridor's construction. The Thai side supports to formulate the Joint Action Plan on China-Thailand Strategic Cooperation (2017-2022), hoping it could become a blueprint to guide bilateral future cooperation in various fields. Thailand supports the efforts in deepening the ASEAN-China cooperation, and accelerating negotiations on the RCEP, and hopes to play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern. After their talks, the two Foreign Ministers also jointly met the press.
