Wang Yi Presides Over Fourth Round of Political Consultation Between Chinese and African Foreign Ministers During the UN General Assembly

On September 20, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane of South Africa co-chaired the fourth round of political consultation between Chinese and African Foreign Ministers during the UN General Assembly at the UN headquarters in New York. Foreign Ministers or representatives of nearly 50 African countries were present.

Wang Yi expressed that Africa is the continent where developing countries are most concentrated. It is a common responsibility for the international community to maintain Africa's peace and stability as well as speed up Africa's development and revitalization. China and Africa are a community of shared future sharing common interests and challenges as well as a community of common interests with win-win cooperation. The Chinese side is willing to continuously uphold the policy towards Africa featuring sincerity, practical results, affinity and good faith and the correct value of friendship, justice and shared interests proposed by President Xi Jinping, and support Africa in well implementing the 2063 Agenda and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, so as to achieve development and revitalization.

Wang Yi noted that China and Africa should enhance the integration of development strategies, strive to transfer respective advantages into the impetus to self-development and China-Africa cooperation, and transfer cooperation opportunities into tangible cooperation outcomes. Both sides should comprehensively well implement the outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), comprehensively advance China-Africa Ten Major Cooperation Plans, and push forward the implementation of the "Belt and Road" construction in Africa, so as to bring more benefits to African countries. Both sides should enhance coordination and cooperation in major international and regional issues, jointly safeguard the overall interests of China, Africa and developing countries, and promote international pattern and governance system to develop towards a more balanced and reasonable direction, in a bid to build a new type of international relations featuring win-win cooperation.

Wang Yi stressed that sincerity and amity are the key tone for China-Africa cooperation, while the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" is its new opportunity. The realization of Chinese Dream together with African Dream is the general goal of China-Africa cooperation. China will make joint efforts with Africa to well plan the upcoming FOCAC summit, and forge the version 2.0 of China-Africa cooperation, so as to promote China-Africa cooperation for constant and new practical outcomes.

Foreign Ministers of various African countries thanked China in their speeches for its long-term and strong assistance to Africa, and supported the "Belt and Road" initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping, appreciated China for actively implementing the outcomes of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit, and hoped that both sides could constantly deepen practical cooperation in various fields, in a bid to achieve mutual benefit, win-win results and sustainable development.

Chinese and African Foreign Ministers exchanged in-depth views centering on the theme of the consultation, and unanimously approved the Joint Communiqué on the Fourth Round of Political Consultation Between Chinese and African Foreign Ministers During the UN General Assembly.
