Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands

On April 10, 2018, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands at Boao State Guesthouse in Hainan Province.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China-Netherlands relations enjoy great potential with much more to be achieved. In the next stage, both sides should implement the cooperation concept featuring openness and win-win results, actively propel the improvement and upgrading of cooperation in traditional fields, vigorously expand cooperation in emerging fields, as well as expand and enrich people-to-people and cultural exchanges, in a bid to achieve a higher level of mutual benefit and win-win results. China and the Netherlands are natural cooperative partners in the "Belt and Road" construction. China appreciates the Netherlands' support for the Belt and Road Initiative and welcomes the Netherlands to actively participate in it. Both countries should well make the top-level design to create conditions for both sides to deeply conduct cooperation.

Xi Jinping stressed that globalization is a general trend that conforms to the common interests of all countries in the world. We should not stop advancing because of temporary difficulties and problems. Instead, we should actively adapt ourselves, adhere to the development concept of opening up, and promote economic globalization to develop in a more open, inclusive, universally beneficial, balanced and win-win direction. China and the Netherlands should maintain an open world economy, continuously safeguard multilateral trade system and promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation. It is hoped that the Netherlands will continue playing a constructive role in the European Union to make greater contributions to promoting China-Europe relations for sound and stable development.

Mark Rutte spoke highly of President Xi Jinping's important speech delivered this morning. Netherlands-China relations are strong and important. The Netherlands looks forward to deepening bilateral cooperation, and jointly forging the partnership under the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" so as to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. The Netherlands attaches importance to China's important role in international affairs, supports free trade and remains committed to promoting and strengthening Europe-China relations.
