People's Daily hails success of Beijing Summit

2006-11-06

The People's Daily, China's leading newspaper, warmly congratulates the successful holding of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in an editorial to be carried on Monday, saying the summit becomes a new milestone for China-Africa friendly cooperation.

Since China and African countries started their diplomatic ties 50 years ago, the two sides have been given support to each other, and during the new era of revitalizing economy and fulfilling development, the decision to hold the Beijing Summit has a historic significance, the editorial says.

With the theme of friendship, peace, cooperation and development, the Beijing Summit passed a declaration and action plan for the next three years, which maps out an all-round blueprint for China-Africa cooperation during the period, it says.

The summit has consolidated the traditional friendship between Chinese and African people, injected new energy into the China-Africa cooperation, and will facilitate the construction of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, it says.

The summit brings out new ideas for South-South dialogue, draws the world attention, and enhances China and Africa's determination to be permanent friends, it says.

The summit brings new prospects to China-Africa cooperation, and the two sides will strictly implement the cooperative measures adopted in the Beijing Action Plan (2007-2009), so as to bring real benefits to the two peoples, it says.

"China and Africa will always be all-weather good friends, good partners of sincere cooperation and regard each other as brothers," it says.
