Comoran president seeks business opportunities in Zhejiang

2006-11-02

Comoran President Ahmed Abdallah Mohamed Sambi Thursday visited a well-known food enterprise, Wahaha Group Co., Ltd. in Hangzhou, capital of the economically booming Zhejiang Province in east China.

Sambi arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on the China-Africa Cooperation scheduled for Nov. 4-5.

Having been a businessman before, Sambi paid attention to seeking more business opportunities in China. He showed interest in the beverage products of Wahaha and invited the enterprise to cooperate with Comoran companies to develop more products.

Xi Jinping, secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, briefed Sambi on Zhejiang's economic and social development, saying its GDP is ranking the fourth among the provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China and the per capita GDP has reached 3,300 U.S. dollars.

The private business sector is enjoying a fast growth in the province, and their products are encouraged to enter the international market, Xi said, noting, "We hope to develop a good trade relationship with Comoros and other African countries."

Sambi invited Zhejiang's business people to invest and build factories in his country and then export their products to other places in Africa, as he termed it as a good deal for both sides.

Before coming back to attend the Beijing Summit, the president is expected to proceed to visit Yiwu, China's largest distribution center for small commodities.

China and Comoros forged diplomatic ties in November, 1975, and bilateral trade totaled 1.83 million U.S. dollars in 2005.

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing visited Comoros in 2004, while former Comoran President Azali Assoumani paid a visit to China in 2003.
