|Chinese Ambassador Attended the Commission Ceremony of 1ST Generator Unit of Kariba North Bank Extension Power Project|
On 4st December, 2013, H.E. Mr. Zhou Yuxiao, the Chinese Ambassador to Zambia and Mr. Chai Zhijing, the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy together with H. E. Mr. Micheal Chilufya Sata, the President of Zambia, Dr. Christine Kaseba, the First Lady, Hon. Christopher Yaluma, Minister of Energy and Water Development, Hon. Emerine Kabanshi, Minister of Local Government, Hon. John Phiri, Minister of Education and representatives from SINOHYDRO and ZESCO attended the Commission Ceremony of the 1st 180MW Generator Unit of Kariba North Bank Extension Power Project.

In his speech at the ceremony, Amb. Zhou congratulated SINOHYDRO and ZESCO for the successful commission of the 1st 180MW Generator Unit. While commending the project as a fruit of bilateral cooperation in hydropower construction, he said China will continue its assistance to Zambia in areas of infrastructure and energy development so as to benefit the Zambian people.
President Sata said the commission of the unit would improve power supply and help to create a better Zambia for the people.
The project is co-financed through a syndicated loan of US$315.6 million from Export-Import Bank of China and US$105.5 million from Development Bank of Southern Africa. Under the construction of contractor SINOHYDRO, the 360MW project contains two 180MW generator units and the 2nd unit is to be completed by early 2014.
