Reminding Chinese Citizens Again to Make Declaration Statement on Your Foreign Exchange at Ethiopian Airport
2009/06/16

Recently, some Chinese citizens were sentenced to jail due to the failure in making declaration on their holding of foreign exchange in cash when leaving the Ethiopian airport. According to the foreign exchange management regulation of Ethiopia, foreigners need to declare on the amount of foreign exchange in cash they hold when entering Ethiopia, and it is the same when they are about to leave the country. If the amount of foreign exchange they declare when leaving the country exceeds that they hold when entering Ethiopia, they need to present the written explanation of a local bank, otherwise they will be punished by law to serve in the prison.

The consul department of the Chinese foreign ministry and the Chinese embassy to Ethiopia already issued a "special attention for overseas travelling" on February 11th on this, and now reminds the Chinese citizens again to strictly abide by Ethiopian laws and regulations.
