Ambassador Yu Hong Attends the Welcoming Reception by Nepal-China Women's Friendship Society

On 27 January, 2017, Ambassador Yu attended the welcoming reception held by the Nepal-China Women's Friendship Society. Ms. Purna Shova Chitrakar, Chairperson of the Society presided the meeting. More than 50 female parliamentarians, writers and diplomats of the Chinese embassy were present.

In her remarks, Ambassador Yu thanked the Nepal-China Women's Friendship Society for organizing the event on the occasion of the Chinese Spring Festival and extended greetings to the sisters present. Ambassador Yu introduced the Chinese economic and social development, the government support for women's cause in China and the development of China-Nepal relations. She expressed that China attached great importance to safeguarding women's rights and made equality between men and women as national policy. In September 2015, President Xi Jinping committed to increasing support for women's development at the Global Women's Summit. The Chinese embassy in Nepal also donated computers, sewing machines and national costumes to the Nepali women with the help of the Society. China would carry out maternal and child health care training programs in Nepal and wished to work together with the Society to promote women exchanges between the two countries.

Ms. Chitrakar welcomed Ambassador Yu to Nepal and said that there was a long exchange history of economy, trade and culture between the two countries.  The Constitution of Nepal guarantees the women's rights. The female played a unique role in the exchanges of the two countries.  Since its establishment, the Society had been committed to providing a platform for the Nepal-China women exchanges, sharing successful experiences and encouraging the common progress of women between the two countries. The Society would like to continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese Embassy and promote the continuous development of women's friendship between the two countries.

Ambassador Yu presented the books Xi Jinping: the Governance of China (Nepali version) and 60 Years of Diplomatic Relations between China and Nepal to the Society.

The Nepal-China Women's Friendship Society, established in 2011, is a nonprofit organization registered in the Nepal Social Welfare Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal with the aim of promoting the women's friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.
