The President of Nepal Attends the Chinese Spring Festival Reception Held by the Chinese Embassy

On the occasion of the upcoming Chinese Spring Festival, Ambassador Yu Hong and her husband, Mr. Yu Jie, held the Chinese Spring Festival reception and organized the Chinese traditional culture show in Kathmandu on 19 January, 2017.  Rt. Hon. Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari, President of Nepal, was present and on behalf of the Nepali people, conveyed her sincere greetings to the Chinese people.

Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, former Prime Minister of Nepal , many Ministers of Nepal, General Rajendra Chhetri, Chief of the Army Staff of Nepal, H.E. Mr. Arjun Bahadur Thapa, Secretary-General of SAARC,  diplomatic envoys in Nepal and representatives of Chinese enterprises, Chinese and overseas Chinese attended the reception.

Ambassador Yu gave a warm New Year greeting and best wishes to all the friends. She expressed that the Chinese government actively implemented the new development concept, speeded up the construction of a well-off society and realized a flying start of the 13th Five-Year Plan last year. Chinese economic growth was expected to reach 6.7%, ranking the forefront of the world.  The Belt and Road initiative was promoted rapidly and got support and participation from more than 100 countries and international organizations.

Ambassador Yu recalled the rapid development of China-Nepal relations last year and said that in the coming year, China would work with Nepal to consolidate political mutual trust, deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, bring more welfare to the two countries and two peoples, and jointly write a new chapter in China-Nepal relations.

The Chinese fan dance performed by the Nepali students opened the prelude of the cultural show. The audience applauded the excellent performance of Guzheng, Bamboo Flute and Changing Face accomplished by the artists from the Nanjing Arts and Culture Troupe.

President Bhandari accompanied by Ambassador Yu walked through the presentation of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage such as Paper Cutting, Kite, Chinese Knot, Clay Figurine, Sugar Figurine, Embroidery and Couplets with great interests.  The guests were deeply attracted by the richness and charm of Chinese culture.

President Bhandari listened closely to the introduction of the economic and trade cooperation projects between the two countries such as the Nepal Armed Police Academy, Arniko Highway, Kathmandu Inner Ring Road, Longping Hi-Tech Agricultural Technology Cooperation, Upper Marsyangdi A Hydropower Station, Upper Madi Hydropower Station and Himalayan Airlines and highly appreciated Chinese selfless help for the economic and social development of Nepal.
