Li Yuanchao Meets with President Abdulla Yameen of Maldives and Other Foreign Guests

On June 11, 2015, Vice President Li Yuanchao met in Kunming with President Abdulla Yameen of Maldives, who was in China to attend the 3rd China-South Asia Expo.

Li Yuanchao said that China and Maldives enjoy a time-honored friendship and have always treated each other as equals and been on friendly terms with each other. The Chinese side stands ready to work with the Maldivian side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and to deepen practical cooperation in economy and trade, infrastructure construction, tourism, oceans and other fields, so as to better benefit the two peoples.

Abdulla Yameen expressed that the Maldivian side cherishes the traditional friendship between the two countries, stands ready to work with the Chinese side to boost cooperation in relevant projects and welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and develop in Maldives.

After the meeting, Li Yuanchao and Abdulla Yameen jointly witnessed the signing of relevant cooperation documents.

On the same day, Li Yuanchao also held a group meeting with representatives of the five countries of the Mekong River Basin and representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) who were in China for the 7th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Corridor Forum, and encouraged all parties to strengthen cooperation, so as to jointly promote economic prosperity and development in the region.
