On February 5th, H.E. Ambassador Liu Weimin met with Tonga's new Minister for Trade and Economic Development Kapeli Lanumata and congratulated him on his new position. Ambassador Liu said, promoting trade is an effective way to accelerate self-reliant and sustainable economic development. We welcome Tonga to take full advantage of vital platforms such as China International Import Expo (CIIE), China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) and China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), to expand export to China. There are also various economic and trade training programs for BRT partner countries. We welcome Tonga’s participation to improve capacity building. China is a firm supporter and important contributor to the multilateral trading system. In order to create a favorable trade and investment environment for developing countries, we are ready to cooperate with Tonga to facilitate global trade and investment.

Hon. Lanumata said that China-Tonga economic and trade cooperation has great potential. To further expand bilateral trade, he hopes China to offer more assistance to help promoteTongan exports to China.
