Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong Delivers a Video Congratulatory Message for the CJK+ASEAN "Young Ambassador" Exchange Activity

On February 27, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, upon invitation, delivered a video congratulatory message for the opening ceremony of the China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (ROK) (CJK) +ASEAN "Young Ambassador" exchange activity.

Sun Weidong said that in 2023, the China-Japan-ROK Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held after a lapse of four years, injecting impetus into the comprehensive resumption of trilateral cooperation. This year marks the 25th anniversary of China-Japan-ROK cooperation. Over the past 25 years, the three countries have established a highly institutionalized all-round cooperation system that covers a wide range of areas and has rich connotations. Practical cooperation in various fields has delivered tangible benefits to the people of the three countries and promoted peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the wider world.

Sun Weidong stressed that people-to-people and cultural exchanges are an important part of China-Japan-ROK cooperation. There are many favorable conditions for the three countries to promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges. President Xi Jinping pointed out that youth represents the future of a country and also the future of the world. He expressed the hope that students from China, Japan, ROK and ASEAN countries will have more exchanges, make more friends and have more heart-to-heart exchanges through this event, and enhance and deepen understanding, so as to build a bridge of friendship, exchanges and cooperation between countries in the region. He also expressed the hope that the youth will continue to participate in East Asia cooperation and contribute to peace and prosperity in Asia.

The "Young Ambassador" exchange activity is a brand program of the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat. This was the first time that the "Young Ambassador" exchange activity was held in China, and it was also the first time that the scope of participation was extended to ASEAN countries. Nearly 450 people, including officials from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, some ASEAN countries' Consulates General in Nanning, as well as teachers, students and media representatives from China, Japan, ROK and ASEAN countries, among others, attended the opening ceremony.
