On the morning of November 15, 2024 local time, President Xi Jinping met with President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Yoon Suk Yeol on the sidelines of the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Lima.
Xi Jinping noted that since their last meeting two years ago in Bali, the international and regional situations have undergone many changes. No matter how the situations change, China and the ROK should stick to the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations, firmly adhere to the direction of good-neighborliness and friendship, and remain committed to the goal of mutual benefit and win-win results. Xi Jinping called on the two sides to give full play to the advantages of geographical proximity, cultural affinity and economic integration to strengthen exchanges and deepen cooperation, and promote the sound and steady development of the China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership, so as to bring more benefits to the two peoples and make greater contributions to advancing regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.
Xi Jinping stressed that both sides should strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance understanding and trust, and strive to help each other succeed and achieve common development. China is committed to expanding high-level opening-up and welcomes more ROK enterprises to invest and do business in China. Xi Jinping urged both sides to jointly safeguard the international free trade system and the stability and smooth flow of global and regional industrial and supply chains. The two sides should engage in more activities that are conducive to enhancing friendship and encourage intensifying exchanges between the media, academia, sub-national levels, and especially the youth. More ROK citizens are welcome to visit China. Xi Jinping expressed the hope that the ROK side will introduce more measures to facilitate Chinese citizens' travels to the ROK. China congratulates and supports the ROK in taking over the role of APEC host next year and is ready to expand multilateral coordination and cooperation with the ROK.
Yoon Suk Yeol said that exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two sides have developed in an orderly manner since his meeting with President Xi Jinping two years ago in Bali. China is an important engine for world economic growth and a major contributor to addressing the challenges faced by the world. The ROK regards China as an important partner and hopes to advance the continuous development of the ROK-China strategic cooperative partnership based on the spirit of mutual respect and the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations, in order to better address common challenges and promote regional peace and stability. The ROK's commitment to respecting the one-China policy remains unchanged, and hopes to participate in China's modernization process and further strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. The ROK welcomes China's policy of granting visa-free entry to ROK citizens. The ROK is ready to work with China to promote closer people-to-people and cultural exchanges and enhance the friendship between the two peoples. The ROK is ready to enhance communication and cooperation with China within multilateral mechanisms such as APEC to jointly uphold multilateralism and free trade.
