China and Oman

In 2013, the friendly relations and cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Sultanate of Oman grew smoothly.

The two countries maintained exchanges at all levels. In March, Sultan of Oman Qaboos Bin Said sent a congratulatory message to President Xi Jinping on his election. Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yousef Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah sent congratulatory messages respectively to State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on their assumption of office. In April, Sultan Qaboos sent a message of sympathy to President Xi in the wake of the earthquake in Lushan, Sichuan Province.

In January, Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun paid a visit to Oman and held the seventh strategic consultation between the two foreign ministries with the Secretary General of Omani Foreign Ministry Badr Bin Hamad. In January, Rear Admiral Abdullah Bin Khamis Al-Raeesi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman, paid a visit to China. In June, a delegation of Omani diplomats visited China.

Business and energy cooperation between China and Oman made steady progress. China is Oman's biggest buyer of crude oil and Oman is China's third largest oil provider.

The two countries made new progress in cultural, educational and people-to-people exchanges. Chongqing Song and Dance Troupe toured Oman. The Shandong Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition was held in Oman. Delegations of Ningxia Medical University, China Institute of Contemporary International Relations and Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries visited Oman and had friendly exchanges with the Omani side.

China's naval escort fleet continued to get replenishment and rehabilitation at Oman's Salalah Port.
