On September 1, 2025, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee Cai Qi met in Tianjin with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025.

Cai Qi stated that President Xi Jinping held a fruitful meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the previous day, reaching important common understandings and providing new strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Türkiye to fully implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, enhance political mutual trust, support each other in safeguarding core interests, seek greater synergy between development strategies, advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, strengthen communication and cooperation in international and regional affairs, and take the strategic cooperative relationship between China and Türkiye to new heights.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that Türkiye attaches great importance to developing relations with China, and is willing to work with China to make good use of the intergovernmental cooperation committee mechanism, advance the synergy of the Middle Corridor Initiative with the high-quality Belt and Road Initiative, expand cooperation across various sectors, strengthen inter-party exchanges, enhance multilateral coordination, and promote greater development of bilateral relations.
