China and Fiji

On November 5,1975, the People's Republic of China officially established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Fiji. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the relations between the two sides have maintained a sound momentum.

In November 2014,President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Fiji, the two sides upgraded a strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development. In November 2018, President Xi Jinping met with representative of Fiji government (Minister for  National Security) in Papua New Guinea, and the two sides agreed to upgrade the relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development. In November 2023, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in San Francisco. In August 2024, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka paid an official visit to China. During this visit,President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Rabuka, Prime Minister Li Qiang held talks with Prime Minister Rabuka, and the two sides issued Joint Statement between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Fiji.

In September 2012, the Confucius Institute of South Pacific University was officially established in Fiji. In December 2015, China Cultural Center in Fiji was established. The Chinese naval hospital ship Peace Ark paid a visit to Fiji and provided humanitarian medical services to the local people twice, respectively in August 2014 and August 2018.
