On January 11, Consul General TONG Xiaoling attended the welcome reception hosted by the Canada-China Business Council (CCBC).

In her speech, Consul General TONG extended her congratulations on CCBC's 40th anniversary of foundation and appreciated its pioneering role in promoting bilateral economic and business cooperation between China and Canada in the past decades.

Consul General Tong said China has experienced rapid development and achieved great economic progress since its adoption of opening-up policy 40 years ago. To engage broader and deeper cooperation with the rest of the world and promote common development, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Belt and Road Initiative in 2013. In his report at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China last October, President Xi made it very clear that "China will not close its door, we will only become more and more open". China will adopt a series of policies to promote high-standard liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment. China will host the first China International Import Expo in Shanghai in November 2018. Canadian businesses are welcome to participate in the Expo.

TONG also expressed that the exchanges between China and Canada enjoyed a time-honored history and the bilateral relations have achieved sound development since the establishment of diplomatic ties. TONG encouraged the enterprises from both sides to make greater efforts to advance pragmatic cooperation in various fields and translate potential into reality, so as to contribute to the construction of the new Golden Era as outlined by our two leaders.

CCBC's President Graham Shantz and Vice Chairman Stockwell Day extended their warm welcome to TONG as the new Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Vancouver. They spoke highly of China's development achievements in recent years and the opportunities China has provided to the world, and expressed their willingness to work closely with TONG and the Chinese Consulate to further promote China-Canada cooperation in a pragmatic way.
