On June 20, the Chinese Embassy in Somalia and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of Somalia jointly held a signing ceremony. H.E. Ambassador Fei Shengchao and Somali Humanitarian Minister Khadija M Diriye signed documents on China's provision of emergency food aid to Somalia in response to the drought.

H.E. Ambassador Fei Shengchao thanked Mr. Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, Special Presidential Envoy for Drought Response, the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management for their strong support and close cooperation in facilitating emergency food aid. He said that, like Somalia, China is also a country prone to natural disasters, and the Chinese feel the sufferings of the Somalis as their own. With the signing of the documents, the Chinese side will maintain close collaboration with the Somalia side and speed up the process. China will do its utmost to help Somalia in response to the current drought, and jointly explore possibilities with Somalia for a lasting solution to the disaster.
