Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong Pays a Courtesy Call on Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

On May 28, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, who attended the 12th round of diplomatic consultation between China and Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka.

Sun Weidong conveyed cordial greetings from Chinese leaders to Hasina, saying that China attaches great importance to developing China-Bangladesh relations and cherishes the traditional friendship forged by the elder generation of leaders of the two countries. Sun Weidong briefed on the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China’s economic and social development and the basic principles of major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics for a new era. He pointed out that China is advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization, and China’s development will bring major opportunities to other countries and inject more stability and certainty into the world. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Hasina, China-Bangladesh relations have made substantial progress. China stands ready to work with Bangladesh to strengthen the alignment of development strategies, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and join hands to realize the Chinese dream of great national rejuvenation and the dream of “Sonar Bangla”.

Hasina conveyed her sincere greetings to Chinese leaders, saying that Bangladesh and China enjoy a time-honored friendship with a solid foundation. She thanked China for its long-term and valuable support to Bangladesh and appreciated China’s constructive role in international and regional affairs. Bangladesh firmly pursues the one-China policy and stands ready to strengthen cooperation with China to realize their respective dream and jointly promote regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.

On the same day, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong also met with Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen. Momen said Bangladesh appreciates China’s support for the country’s economic and social development and is ready to work with China to accelerate the implementation of the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, and advance cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative and major projects, so as to continuously bring bilateral relations to new levels.
