On October 20, 2021, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Singaporean Ambassador to China Lui Tuck Yew. The two sides exchanged views on China-Singapore relations, East Asia cooperation, and international and regional issues of common concern.
Liu Jinsong said, the phone conversation between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on October 15 has charted the course for the development of China-Singapore relations. China stands ready to work with Singapore to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, continue to strengthen high-level exchange and strategic communication, co-host China-Singapore Forum on Leadership and the meeting of Joint Committee of Bilateral Cooperation, expand cooperation in new fields such as digital economy and green development, and deepen convergence of bilateral interests. China will work with Singapore to take the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations as an opportunity to upgrade China-ASEAN relations.
Lui Tuck Yew said, Singapore stands ready to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the two leaders, further enhance high-level exchanges, and expand practical cooperation. Singapore supports the commemorative events to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN-China dialogue relations, and pushes for new progress in ASEAN-China relations. The Global Development Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping is consistent with other visions such as a community of a shared future for mankind and the Belt and Road Initiative. Singapore is willing to work with China to boost global economic recovery. Singapore will take the role of chair at the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership Commission next year, and Singapore welcomes and supports China's participation in the Agreement.
