Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen Meets with Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Xue Bing

On March 14, 2022 local time, Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Xue Bing met with Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen in Addis Ababa.

Xue Bing elaborated on the "Initiative of Peaceful Development in the Horn of Africa" put forward by State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on behalf of China during his visit to Africa at the beginning of this year, saying China is ready to have extensive communication with countries in the region and play a constructive role in promoting peace and development of the Horn of Africa and the African continent as a whole. China hopes that as a major country in the region, Ethiopia will play an active role in promoting the early implementation of the initiative and bring more benefits to countries and people in the region.

Demeke said, Ethiopia highly appreciates and firmly supports China's "Initiative of Peaceful Development in the Horn of Africa", which is a full testament to responsibility China undertakes as a responsible major country. Ethiopia is ready to work with China to further deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Ethiopia and China, and jointly push for the implementation of the initiative, contributing to the long-term peace and stability, development and prosperity of the Horn of Africa region.
