On June 14, 2022, Malawian Foreign Minister Nancy Tembo met with visiting Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng in Lilongwe. Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Malawi Wang Hao, and Director Grace Njala and Deputy Director of Asia, Australia and Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malawi were present.

Tembo welcomed Wu Peng's visit, saying that it fully demonstrated the importance of Malawi-China relations. Tembo stressed that Malawi attaches great importance to the development of friendly cooperation with China, and will never waver in its firm adherence to the one-China principle. She thanked the Chinese government for its strong support for Malawi's development for a long time. Malawi expects to further deepen political mutual trust between the two countries, push for more friendly and cooperative projects to deliver results, continuously consolidate the foundation of people-to-people friendship and work together for steady and sustained growth of bilateral relations.

Wu Peng said since the establishment of China-Malawi diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have witnessed rapid and sound development with fruitful results in practical cooperation and deepening friendship between the two peoples. In August last year, President Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with President Lazarus Chakwera, charting the course for the development of bilateral relations. China appreciates Malawi's firm adherence to the one-China principle and always supports Malawi in independently exploring a development path suited to its national conditions. China is a sincere development partner of Malawi and stands ready to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and the important outcomes of the FOCAC conference, so as to push forward the continuous development of China-Malawi relations.
