Zambian Minister of Foreign Affairs Stanley Kasongo Kakubo Meets with Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng

On June 17, 2022, Zambian Minister of Foreign Affairs Stanley Kasongo Kakubo met with visiting Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng in Lusaka. Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Du Xiaohui and Deputy Director-General of the Department of Development Cooperation and International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Zambia, among others, were present.

Kakubo welcomed Wu Peng's visit and said that Zambia and China enjoy a time-honored friendship and fruitful practical cooperation. He thanked China for its long-term selfless assistance to Zambia in the fields of economy, people's livelihood, infrastructure construction, energy and pandemic response. Zambia is willing to continue to deepen political mutual trust between the two countries, promote the effective implementation of more friendly cooperation projects within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), constantly consolidate the foundation of friendship, and safeguard the friendship between the two countries and the two peoples.

Wu Peng spoke highly of China-Zambia friendly exchanges and the achievements of cooperation in various fields, and thanked the Zambian government for its firm adherence to the one-China principle. He said that China attaches great importance to the development of China-Zambia relations, and is ready to strengthen strategic communication and policy coordination with Zambia, fully implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state during the phone conversations, negotiate priorities for cooperation between the two countries in the next stage, and foster synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and Zambia's Eighth National Development Plan, so as to see more implementation of the nine programs of the FOCAC in Zambia and help the transformation and upgrading of bilateral practical cooperation.
