On June 17, 2022, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema met with visiting Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng in Lusaka. Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Du Xiaohui and Minister of Foreign Affairs Stanley Kasongo Kakubo, among others, were present. Zambia News Agency and other media made a live report.

Hichilema said, not long ago, he had a successful phone conversation with President Xi Jinping, during which they reached a lot of consensuses and charted the course for future cooperation between the two countries. Zambia-China cooperation enjoys a sound historical foundation and the friendship between the two countries has grown with new vitality as time goes by. Zambia is ready to work with China to push bilateral friendly relations to a higher level.

Wu Peng thanked President Hichilema for taking the time to meet with him. He said, China attaches great importance to China-Zambia relations and would like to make every effort to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, further strengthen strategic communication with Zambia, and continuously consolidate and deepen bilateral friendship to push for greater development of bilateral relations.
