Director-General Wu Peng meets with Diplomatic Adviser to the President of Senegal Oumar Demba Ba.

On June 24, 2022, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng met with Diplomatic Adviser to the President of Senegal Oumar Demba Ba and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad Mame Baba Cissé. Chinese Ambassador to Senegal Xiao Han and others were present at the meeting.

Wu Peng said, under the joint guidance and care of the two heads of state, China-Senegal relations are running at a high level. As important cooperative partners and co-chairs of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), both sides have made great efforts to promote China-Africa solidarity and cooperation, jointly fight the COVID-19 pandemic and accelerate economic recovery. China supports Senegal in pursuing a path of self-driven development. China appreciates and will continue to support Senegal's role as the rotating presidency of the African Union. China attaches great importance to China-Senegal relations, and is ready to maintain close coordination with Senegal and take the opportunity of implementing the nine programs of the Eighth FOCAC Ministerial Conference to push for more outcomes on driving development and improving people's lives in China-Senegal cooperation and China-Africa cooperation.

Demba Ba said, recently, Senegal and China have witnessed frequent and close interaction, with President Macky Sall attending the High-level Dialogue on Global Development. That fully demonstrated the active, positive and fruitful features of bilateral relations. Senegal is ready to work with China to actively follow through on the consensus reached by the two heads of state, constantly keep close Senegal-China relations and pragmatic cooperation, and jointly send a common message of developing countries. Senegal hopes to deepen bilateral cooperation in fields such as climate change, investment and financing, so as to make Senegal-China cooperation a model of Africa-China cooperation and South-South cooperation.

Cissé said, Senegal will, as always, firmly support the one-China principle, and is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China on international issues such as human rights. The outcomes of pragmatic cooperation between Senegal and China are witnessed by all. Senegal thanks China for its long-term support for Senegal's economic and social development, and hopes that pragmatic cooperation between the two countries in various fields will bear more fruits.
