President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader and Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez Meet with Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi Respectively

On July 4, 2022, President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader and Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez met with visiting Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi respectively. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and practical cooperation. Chinese Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Zhang Run and Deputy Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic Jose Julio Gomez attended the meetings.

Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi said, since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the Dominican Republic more than four years ago, bilateral relations have developed rapidly in an all-round way, and pragmatic cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results, showing positive momentum of development and broad prospects for cooperation. In particular, bilateral trade volume has grown by leaps and bounds, showing strong momentum. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides have joined hands to fight the pandemic and overcome difficulties together, and the friendship between China and the Dominican Republic has been elevated. China regards the Dominican Republic as an important partner in Latin America and the Caribbean and stands ready to work with the Dominican Republic to cement political mutual trust, tap cooperation potential and continuously push bilateral relations to new heights.

President Abinader asked Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi to convey his cordial greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. He stressed that the Dominican Republic will firmly abide by the one-China principle, and said that at the most difficult time in the Dominican Republic's fight against the pandemic, China's strong support made the Dominican Republic truly feel China's friendship, and also enabled us full of confidence in overcoming the pandemic. The Dominican Republic is ready to deepen practical cooperation with China and Chinese companies are welcome to invest and do business in the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic highly appreciates the important contributions made by President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government to maintaining world peace and stability, supports the objective and impartial position that China has always upheld on international hotspot issues, and stands ready to work with China to jointly build a world of peace, development and prosperity.

Foreign Minister Alvarez said that the Dominican Republic attaches great importance to developing relations with China and will unswervingly abide by the one-China principle. The vaccine support provided by China to the Dominican Republic is like a light at the end of the tunnel, bringing hope to the the Dominican Republic's fight against pandemic. The Dominican Republic values the broad market potential of China, and is willing to further exert its own advantages, expand exports to China and improve the scale and level of bilateral trade. Alvarez wishes the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China a complete success and believes that China will take greater steps for development after the congress.
