On July 8, 2022, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs Wu Hongbo attended the 2022 Europe Day Reception held by the European Union (EU) Delegation to China upon invitation.

Wu Hongbo said in his remarks that in recent years, China-EU relations have made new progress, with frequent and close high-level exchanges and record highs in trade volumes. The high-level dialogue mechanisms on digital and green issues have been newly established, and the China-EU Agreement on Geographical Indications has been successfully implemented. Under the current situation, as two stabilizing forces in a multi-polar world, China and the EU should focus on dialogue and cooperation, foster new growth drivers for cooperation, and jointly address global challenges, so as to bring more certainty and stability to the turbulent world. China and the EU should stay committed to mutual respect, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and properly resolving differences through dialogue and consultation.

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to China Nicolas Chapuis said that he himself has been posted in China many times, and has witnessed the continuous advancement of China's great rejuvenation and also made contributions to deepening all-round exchanges and cooperation between the EU and China. The EU is China's most important trading partner. EU-China relations enjoy great potential, but also face challenges. Chapuis hopes that both sides will strengthen dialogue, and cooperate to deal with issues such as climate change, environment, and food and energy security, so as to bring stability, security and prosperity to the two peoples.
