On September 23, 2022, Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs attended the reception marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico and the National Day of Mexico hosted by the Mexican Embassy in China.

In his speech, Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi extended, on behalf of the Chinese side, warm congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico. Qiu Xiaoqi noted that on February 14, 1972, China and Mexico established diplomatic relations, joining hands across the Pacific Ocean, and ushering in a new era of bilateral exchanges. In 2013, President Xi Jinping paid a historical visit to Mexico, during which the two sides established comprehensive strategic partnership, opening a new chapter in bilateral relations. Recent years have seen deepening political mutual trust, fruitful mutually beneficial cooperation, and diversified cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two sides. In the face of the once-in-a-century pandemic, the two countries have stood together in mutual assistance to pull through the difficult time, and have taken concrete steps to build a global community of health for all, setting a fine example of solidarity against the pandemic. The two sides have also kept close communication in international and regional affairs, and maintained coordination and collaboration in the United Nations, the G20, the China-CELAC Forum, and other important multilateral platforms, making positive contributions to safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of the two countries and developing countries as a whole, upholding international fairness and justice, and helping the international community jointly respond to global challenges. Five decades after the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Mexico have become good partners and endeared brothers moving forward side by side.

In his speech, Mexican Ambassador to China Jesús Seade said that over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, under the strategic guidance of the heads of state of the two countries, Mexico-China relations have made marked progress, with traditional friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation deepening continuously. The Mexican side sincerely thanked the Chinese side for providing staunch support for Mexico to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, and stands ready to work with the Chinese side to increase political mutual trust, strengthen strategic coordination, and promote sustained development of bilateral relations.

Before the reception, Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi had a small group meeting with Ambassador Jesús Seade, and the two sides exchanged views on China-Mexico relations, among others.
