China and Ecuador Hold Consultations on Issues on the United Nations Security Council

On November 10, 2022, Director-General Shen Bo of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences and Acting Under-Secretary for Multilateral Affairs of Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility Denys Toscano Amores held China-Ecuador consultations on issues on the United Nations (UN) Security Council via video link.

The Chinese side congratulates the Ecuadorian side on its election as a non-permanent member state of the UN Security Council for the 2023-2024 term. Shen Bo briefed on the points of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and said that the important report delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping provides fundamental principles and action guidance for China to participate in the affairs of the UN and the UN Security Council. China, as a permanent member state of the UN Security Council, will actively participate in the reform and development of the global governance system, practice the global governance vision featuring extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, uphold true multilateralism, firmly safeguard the UN-centered international system, the international order underpinned by international law, and basic norms governing international relations based on the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, oppose all forms of unilateralism, oppose blocs and exclusive cliques against certain countries in multilateral organizations, and oppose interference in other countries' internal affairs and double standards. China is ready to work with Ecuador to actively safeguard the common interests of developing countries and make greater contributions to promoting world peace and development.

The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the current international situation, the work of the UN and the UN Security Council, and China-Ecuador multilateral cooperation. Both sides agreed to urge the UN Security Council to earnestly implement the responsibilities and missions mandated by the UN Charter, adhere to political solutions to hotspot issues, and effectively safeguard international peace and security. Both sides reiterated the importance of upholding solidarity in the UN Security Council and the commitment to improving the work efficiency of the UN Security Council. Both sides spoke highly of the significance of the consultations for deepening multilateral cooperation between the two sides, and stand ready to continue to maintain communication and coordination on the affairs of the UN and the UN Security Council.
