Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Visits Mexico

From November 7 to 10, 2022, Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs visited Mexico, met respectively with President of the Senate Alejandro Armenta Mier, President of the Chamber of Deputies Santiago Creel, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, and Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marqués of Mexico. He also met and exchanged views with Chairman of the Commission of External Relations of the Senate Héctor Vasconcelos and representatives of senators, had meetings and interactions with all deputies at the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies upon invitation, and had a phone call with Mayor of Mexico City Claudia Sheinbaum. Chargée d'affaires a.i. Wang Huijun of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico was present at relevant events.

Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi gave an in-depth introduction to the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and exchanged views with the Mexican side on issues including bilateral relations, practical cooperation, and international and regional situations. The Mexican side expressed warm congratulations on the successful convening of the 20th CPC National Congress and the re-election of Comrade Xi Jinping as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and believed that the Chinese people will relentlessly make new development achievements under the leadership of the CPC. The Mexican side said that developing relations with China is a priority of its foreign policy, and that it hopes to work with the Chinese side to take the joint commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to have closer exchanges and cooperation in fields such as politics, economy and trade, investment, culture and education, tourism, science and technology, and international affairs, so as to elevate the Mexico-China comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.
