Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Visits Colombia

From November 15 to 18, 2022, Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs visited Colombia, during which he met respectively with President of Colombia Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego, President of the Congress and President of the Senate Roy Leonardo Barreras Montealegre and Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva Durán. He also attended the opening ceremony of the Sixth China-Colombia Dialogue together with Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism Germán Umaña Mendoza. Chinese Ambassador to Colombia Lan Hu was present at relevant events.

Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi gave a comprehensive introduction to the key outcomes and the important significance of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and exchanged in-depth views with Colombia on bilateral relations and pragmatic cooperation. He wishes greater achievements in Columbia’s national development by the Colombian people under the leadership of the new Colombian government. The Colombian side extended warm congratulations on the success of the 20th CPC National Congress and President Xi Jinping’s re-election as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, spoke highly of China-Colombia relations, reiterated its commitment to the one-China principle, and thanked China for its strong support to Colombia in the country’s fight against COVID-19. The Colombian side stands ready to deepen mutual trust and cooperation with China and continuously push forward Colombia-China relations.
