Special Envoy for Pacific Island Countries Affairs of the Chinese Government Qian Bo Visits the Federated States of Micronesia

From March 1 to 2, 2023, Special Envoy for Pacific Island Countries Affairs of the Chinese Government Qian Bo visited the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). He had cordial conversations with President David W. Panuelo of the FSM, and held talks with Secretary of Foreign Affairs Kandhi Elieisar, Chief of Staff of the Office of the President Jane Chigiyal, and other FSM officials. The two sides had in-depth exchanges of views on bilateral relations, practical cooperation between the two countries, international and regional issues of mutual interest and concern, and other topics.

Special Envoy Qian Bo said that China attaches great importance to developing its relations with the FSM, and stands ready to work with the FSM to implement the important common understandings reached between leaders of the two countries, enhance political mutual trust, and deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, so as to elevate the China-FSM comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights. The FSM side congratulated Qian Bo on his appointment as Special Envoy for Pacific Island Countries Affairs of the Chinese Government and welcomed Special Envoy Qian Bo and his delegation’s first visit to the FSM. The FSM side spoke highly of the progress in FSM-China relations and the achievements of bilateral cooperation, thanked China for its selfless assistance to the FSM over the years, reiterated firm commitment to the one-China principle, and expressed readiness to make joint efforts with China to promote greater development of bilateral relations.
