On September 27, 2024 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Peruvian Foreign Minister Elmer SCHIALER SALCEDO on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi said, China-Peru relations have long been at the forefront of China-Latin America relations. President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra paid a successful state visit to China this year, during which the two heads of state witnessed the signing of the new joint action plan between the two governments, and announced together the substantive completion of negotiations on upgrading the free trade agreement, thus achieving new progress in bilateral relations. China values its relations with Peru and firmly supports Peru in hosting the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November this year. China is ready to work with Peru to deliver on the common understandings reached between the two heads of state, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, and elevate China-Peru relations to a new level in the new era.

Elmer SCHIALER SALCEDO said, Peru's relations with China are full of vitality. President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra was impressed by her visit to China, especially the in-depth exchanges with President Xi Jinping and the broad common understandings they reached. He thanked the Chinese side for the thoughtful arrangements made for the visit. Peru is actively preparing for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and is ready to work closely with China to ensure the full success of the meeting. Noting that Peruvian companies are optimistic about the Chinese market, he looks forward to strengthening cooperation with China, and welcomes more Chinese companies to invest in Peru.
