
On April 21, 2026, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, met in Beijing with Member of the Political Bureau of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and Standing Deputy Prime Minister of Laos Saleumxay Kommasith, who is visiting China as the special envoy of General Secretary of the LPRP Central Committee and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.
Wang Yi welcomed Saleumxay Kommasith to China, stating that the visit fully reflects the high level of the China-Laos community with a shared future and will further enhance the strategic mutual trust between the two sides. China and Laos are both socialist countries that share common ideals and convictions, as well as similar development paths. The year 2026 marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Laos as well as the Year of China-Laos Friendship, presenting important opportunities for the development of bilateral relations. The Chinese side stands ready to work with the Lao side to implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and two countries, maintain high-level exchanges, enhance strategic communication, and deepen long-term cooperation. The two sides should work together to safeguard their respective political security, regime security, and institutional security, promote the development of the global socialist cause, and make new contributions to regional peace, stability, development, and prosperity.
Wang Yi called on both sides to strengthen inter-governmental institutional dialogues, enhance the quality and efficiency of China-Laos railway connectivity, jointly build an upgraded version of the China-Laos Economic Corridor, and deliver more tangible outcomes in advancing regional connectivity. China will leverage its strengths to align development strategies with Laos, boost whole-industry-chain cooperation in minerals, electricity and other sectors, deepen human resources development and support Laos in economic transformation and industrial growth.

Saleumxay Kommasith stated that under the strategic guidance of the top leaders of the two parties and two countries, the traditional friendship between Laos and China has grown stronger, political mutual trust has deepened, and practical cooperation has yielded fruitful results. Laos is willing to maintain close high-level exchanges with China, jointly hold successful celebration activities for the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations, deepen cooperation in areas such as connectivity, energy and minerals, and build a higher-standard Laos-China community with a shared future. Amid the turbulent and complex international landscape, as like-minded and peace-loving partners, Laos firmly adheres to the one-China principle and supports General Secretary Xi Jinping’s vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind and the four global initiatives. Laos appreciates China’s stance and role in major international and regional affairs, and stands ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China to continuously deepen the Laos-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
