On the morning of April 11, 2005, Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui held consultations with Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Nalivaichenko who was accompanying Chairman of Ukraine's Supreme Soviet (the Speaker of the Parliament) Vladimir Litvin on his Chinese tour. Li made positive remarks over China-Ukraine relations, indicating China would like to enhance cooperation with Ukraine to jointly promote the continuous development of bilateral relations. Li briefed him on the situation of the Taiwan Straits and the adoption of the Anti-Secession Law by the National People's Congress, elaborated the principled stance of the Chinese government on the Taiwan issue, and hoped Ukraine sticks to its commitment and does not establish official relations with Taiwan and not engage in official contacts with the island.

Nalivaichenko said Ukraine highly prioritizes its relations with China and would like to expand exchanges and cooperation with China in politics, economy, trade and humanities. The government of Ukraine continues to uphold the one-China policy and understands the adoption of the Anti-Secession Law and all efforts made within the framework of the law to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity by the National People's Congress of China.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common interest.
