Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun Meets with Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Rosemary A. DiCarlo

On April 11, 2023, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun met with visiting Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary A. DiCarlo. The two sides exchanged views on hotspot issues in the Middle East.

Zhai Jun expounded on China's principled positions on relevant issues, and emphasized that China supports the Middle East countries in upholding strategic independence, strengthening solidarity and coordination, and promoting regional peace and stability through dialogue and consultations. China is ready to continue to enhance communication and coordination with the United Nations on Middle East affairs, promote political settlement of regional hotspot issues, and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.

Rosemary A. DiCarlo spoke positively of the important outcomes achieved at the talks between Saudi Arabia and Iran in Beijing, appreciated China for playing a constructive role in mediating the hotspot issues in the Middle East and promoting regional peace and stability, and expected to strengthen cooperation with China in advancing the political settlement of hotspot issues in the Middle East.
