On June 20, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu attended the launch of the Progress Report on the Global Development Initiative held in Beijing and delivered remarks.

Ma Zhaoxu said that the Global Development Initiative (GDI) put forward by President Xi Jinping is an important public good that China provides to the international community in the new era, and an important practice of the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind in global development. In June 2022, President Xi Jinping chaired the High-Level Dialogue on Global Development, charting the course for GDI implementation. With the concerted efforts of all parties, the Initiative is delivering real results, and has brought true benefits to all countries.

Ma Zhaoxu pointed out that facing such a complex and grave international situation, we should keep to the right direction of economic globalization, vigorously uphold the common values of humanity, and earnestly implement the GDI, so as to inject more certainty and positive energy to a world of turmoil and transformation and promote the development of developing countries. China will always be a member of the developing world and a partner and brother of fellow developing countries. China will work with all parties to deliver concrete results in advancing the GDI, and work for realizing the sustainable development goals as scheduled.

The Progress Report on the Global Development Initiative, written by the Center for International Knowledge on Development, reviewed the positive progress of the Initiative since its proposal, in particular in the past year since the hosting of the High-Level Dialogue on Global Development. Ambassadors of members of the Group of Friends of the GDI to China and representatives of the United Nations development agencies in China attended the launch. All participating parties spoke highly of tremendous development achievements made in Chinese modernization, highly appreciated the GDI for pooling international consensus and  synergy of action for jointly promoting development and injecting strong impetus into accelerating the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and expressed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation with China within the framework of the Initiative and make greater contributions to promoting common development of all the countries around the world.
