Joint Press Release of the 14th Expert Group Meeting on the China-Bhutan Boundary Issues

The 14th Expert Group Meeting on the China-Bhutan Boundary Issues was held in Thimphu, Bhutan from August 20 to 22, 2024. The meeting was co-chaired by Hong Liang, Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and Head of the Chinese expert group, and Letho Tobdhen Tangbi, Secretary of the International Boundaries of Bhutan and Head of the Bhutanese expert group.

The two sides reviewed the positive progress made in the China-Bhutan boundary negotiations in recent years and had friendly, candid and constructive discussions on topics of mutual interest and concern, including the implementation of the Three-Step Road Map. On the sidelines of the Expert Group Meeting, the two sides held the second meeting of the Joint Technical Team on the Delimitation and Demarcation of China-Bhutan Boundary, and discussed the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement on the Functions of the Joint Technical Team on the Delimitation and Demarcation of China-Bhutan Boundary.

The talks were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, reflecting the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Bhutan.
