On July 23, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Canada H.E. Wang Di met with Former Prime Minister of Canada the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien in Toronto. Chair of the Board of CCBC, Mr. Olivier Desmarais, Chinese Consul General, Mr. Luo Weidong and Minister Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Chinese Embassy in Canada, Mr. Sun Jiwen, joined the meeting.

Ambassador Wang said that you are an old friend and good friend of China and have made important contributions to China-Canada relations. When you were prime minister, you forged the golden decade for China-Canada relations together with Chinese leaders. After retirement, you have remained committed to China-Canada friendship. China highly appreciates that. As next year marks the 20th anniversary of China-Canada strategic partnership, China stands ready to work with Canada to promote healthy and stable development of the bilateral relations on the basis of mutual respect, seeking common ground while putting aside differences, and win-win cooperation. We hope that you could continue to play a constructive role in promoting China-Canada friendship. 

The Right Honourable Jean Chrétien welcomed Ambassador Wang and highlighted that China and Canada are natural partners and that both sides should look ahead and bring the bilateral relationship back to the right track.
