On July 23, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Canada H.E. Wang Di visited the Bethune Memorial House National Historic Site and met with the Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada (BMDAC). He was accompanied by the Chinese Consul General in Toronto, Mr. Luo Weidong.
Ambassador Wang highlighted that this year marks the 85th anniversary of the passing of Dr. Norman Bethune, who is a symbol of China-Canada friendship. The Bethune spirit has inspired generation after generation of people in both countries. Now, the baton of history has been passed on to our generation. We must step up to the historical responsibilities and inherit and carry forward the Bethune spirit, to jointly advance China-Canada exchanges and cooperation and promote steady and sustained development of China-Canada relations, so as to benefit the two peoples. This will be the best tribute to Dr. Bethune. Ambassador Wang commended BMDAC’s contribution to China-Canada medical exchanges and cooperation and hoped that BMDAC could continue to actively promote China-Canada friendship.
President of BMDAC Dr. Lee Errett thanked the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in Canada for their long-standing support and stressed that BMDAC remains committed to carrying forward the Bethune spirit and deepening medical cooperation between the two countries.
