On June 30, Ambassador Kong Xianhua, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, met with IOM Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Iori Kato, Chief of Mission of IOM for the Maldives and Sri Lanka Sarat Dash, and their delegation upon request.
Kato spoke highly of China's significant contributions and leadership in supporting the cause of the United Nations and international multilateralism. He systematically introduced IOM's key priorities and expressed hope to explore trilateral cooperation with China in the Maldives to support the Maldivian government's efforts in safeguarding the rights and interests of migrants.
Ambassador Kong stated that China has always been a firm defender and active practitioner of multilateralism. He appreciated IOM's work in supporting the Maldivian government to address challenges such as migration and climate change, and expressed willingness to work with IOM to jointly support the Maldives' economic, social, and livelihood development.
