On July 1, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Samoa Fei Mingxing published a signed article titled “Stories of the Communist Party of China” in Samoa Observer. The full text is as follows:
In July 1921, the Communist Party of China (CPC) was founded. For more than a hundred years, the CPC has united and led the Chinese people to create a miracle of rapid economic development and long-term social stability rarely seen in the world, and written the most magnificent epic in the thousands of years of history of the Chinese nation.
Here, I would like to share four stories with Samoan friends, in celebration of the 104th birthday (1 July) of the CPC and hoping they could provide some inspiration for you.
The Story from the Revolutionary War Era
In order to achieve national independence and people's liberation, the the CPC united and led the Chinese people through the Northern Expedition War, the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, overthrew the three great mountains of imperialism, feudalism and bureaucratic capitalism, and established the People's Republic of China, where the people being the masters of the country. During this period, countless CPC Party members sacrificed heroically.
“Steel Warrior” Yang Jingyu,a famous anti-Japanese national hero, was one of them. He was born into a peasant family in 1905. Actively he participated in the anti imperialist and patriotic movement during his student years. He joined the the CPC at the age of 21. Later he became one of the main founders and leaders of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Forces.
In February 1940, he fought heroically until ran out of ammunition in one brutal battle, sacrificing his life for the cause of justice. The cruel Japanese soldiers cut off his head and opened his abdomen, only finding that his stomach was full of dry grass, bark and cotton fluff, without a single grain of food.
In 2009, Yang Jingyu was posthumously awarded as one of the "100 Heroes and Model Figures Who Made Outstanding Contributions to the Founding of New China".
In the face of the atrocious Japanese invaders, the CPC held high the banner of patriotism, firmly stood at the forefront of the fight against the invaders, promoted the formation of the national war of resistance, and in 1945 won the first complete victory against foreign invasion in modern times.
The Story of Socialist Construction
On October 1, 1949, the People's Republic of China was founded. In the early days of New China, much remained to be done. The CPC illuminated the way forward with the confidence of self-reliance and hard work, started a series of bold socialist revolutions and construction, made historic achievements, and produced countless people's heroes.
“Iron Man” Wang Jinxi was one of such heroes. He was one of the first batch of oil drilling workers in New China and a nationally renowned model worker. He was born in 1923 and joined the CPC in 1956.
He led the drilling team to Daqing Oilfield located in northeast China. Breaking down the drilling rig equipment weighing more than 60 tons into small pieces,he used the method of pulling and carrying the drilling rig and equipment from the train to transport them to the drilling site for installation. He worked with the workers to the nearby pond to break the ice to fetch water, and carried more than 50 tons of water in basins and buckets to ensure the drilling of the oil well.
"I would rather live 20 years less and fight to take over the big oil field." He shouted out the bold slogan. When hungry, he had a few bites of frozen steamed bread. When sleepy, he took a nap wrapped in an old sheepskin coat. When encountering a blowout, he jumped into the half-man-deep mud pit and stirred it with his body disregarding the danger. He was called an “iron man” attributing to his working spirit.
The Story of Reform and Opening Up
Reform and opening up are two shining business cards for the CPC to promote the great practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which has changed China and benefited the world significantly.
The Shenzhen story is a microcosm of China’s reform and opening up story. More than 40 years ago, Shenzhen was a poor and backward small town with a population of over 30,000 and a per capita income of 600 yuan.
In 1979, the CPC asked Shenzhen to "take the lead" and be the pioneer and experimental field of reform and opening up. Adhering to the principle of "development is the top priority" and "innovation is the first driving force", Shenzhen opens up to the outside world in all aspects, and develops into a modern metropolis with prosperous economy, harmonious society, complete functions and beautiful environment, with a population of over 20 million.
By 2024, Shenzhen’s per capita income has increased by more than 130 times. The establishment of Special Economic Zones is a great initiative of the CPC, and Shenzhen is a world miracle created by the CPC!
Today, Huawei, DJI, Tencent, BYD and other high tech companies based in Shenzhen are providing strong impetus for global development and human livelihood progress.
The Story of the New Journey
“Poverty is not socialism, let alone communism”. It is an important mission of the CPC to eliminate poverty, improve people's livelihood and gradually realize common prosperity. Since the reform and opening up, the CPC has led the Chinese people to rely on the advantages of its socialist system to create the largest, longest-lasting, and most populous poverty reduction miracle in human history.
Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, there has been a further increase in attention to poverty alleviation issues. In 2012, there were still 98.99 million impoverished people in China, who were either located in isolated and remote mountain villages, lacked sufficient education and employment resources, or were elderly and frail.
In 2013, in a poor village in Hunan Province, CPC General Secretary and Chinese President Xi Jinping first proposed the concept of "targeted poverty alleviation" . The Chinese government used a combination of production development, relocation, ecological compensation, education development, and social security to ensure that every poor family receive effective help.
In practice, each impoverished village had designated officials to take targeted measures, and the CPC Party Secretaries at the provincial, municipal, county, township, and village levels coordinate the work. It was also evaluated by a third party to ensure the accuracy and authenticity of poverty alleviation work.
In 2020, China completed the poverty alleviation targets for the new era as scheduled and eliminated absolute poverty. Nearly 800 million people in China have been successfully lifted out of poverty, contributing over 70% to global poverty reduction. China has achieved the poverty reduction goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule, boosting the confidence of developing countries to eliminate absolute poverty and achieve the UN 2030 Agenda.
The CPC is a party that seeks happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation. It is also a party that seeks progress for mankind and common ground for the world.
Standing at the critical crossroads of the world's century-long changes, The CPC is willing to continue strengthening exchanges and cooperation with political parties and political organizations of all countries including the Pacific island countries, on the basis of the principles of independence, complete equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, working together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
