Xi Jinping Meets with President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo

On the morning of September 4, 2024, President Xi Jinping met with President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who is in China for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China and Equatorial Guinea are good friends. High-level political mutual trust, all-round practical cooperation, and profound friendship between the two peoples are the main features of bilateral relations. In recent years, the two countries have made solid progress in cooperation in various fields and coordinated closely in international affairs. China is ready to work with Equatorial Guinea to firmly support each other, expand practical cooperation, deepen defense and security cooperation, help Equatorial Guinea diversify its economy, advance together on their respective modernization path, and open up new prospects for the China-Equatorial Guinea comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership.

Xi Jinping congratulated Equatorial Guinea on its assumption of the co-chairmanship of the FOCAC from 2027 to 2030 and pointed out that the Beijing Summit is committed to drawing a new blueprint for China-Africa cooperation in the new era, which marks a new milestone in the history of China-Africa relations. China is ready to work closely with Equatorial Guinea to ensure the success of the Summit and promote the sustained development of China-Africa relations.

Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo said that as soon as he arrived in Beijing, he felt the sincere friendship of the Chinese people towards Equatorial Guinea and the African people. The organization of the Summit is meticulous and the theme is in line with the dream of African countries to pursue modernization. He is confident that the Summit will be a complete success. Equatorial Guinea's relations with China are based on profound friendship and a high degree of mutual trust, with fruitful cooperation and close coordination in international affairs. The investment and cooperation of Chinese enterprises have helped Equatorial Guinea take on a new look, and China has made important contributions to promoting world peace. Equatorial Guinea is ready to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation with China. Equatorial Guinea firmly abides by the one-China principle and supports the Chinese government's efforts to achieve national reunification.
