Xi Jinping Meets with Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohammad Al-Manfi

On the afternoon of September 4, 2024, President Xi Jinping met with Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohammad Al-Manfi, who is in China for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The two heads of state announced the establishment of a strategic partnership between China and Libya.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Libya enjoy traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 46 years ago, the two countries have always supported each other and treated each other with sincerity. No matter how the situation changes, China's attitude of supporting Libya's stability and development and promoting China-Libya friendly cooperation will remain unchanged. China is ready to deepen political mutual trust with Libya, expand exchanges and cooperation and push for the steady and long-term development of China-Libya relations.

Xi Jinping stressed that China highly appreciates Libya's adherence to the one-China principle and supports Libya in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and finding a path to national peace, stability, prosperity and development through dialogue and consultation. China supports Libya's economic reconstruction and improvement of its people's livelihood, and hopes that Libya will foster a sound business environment for Chinese enterprises. China is willing to work with Libya to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with African and Arab countries, maintain close multilateral communication at platforms such as the United Nations, consolidate solidarity and coordination among the Global South countries, and safeguard the common interests of developing countries and international fairness and justice.

Mohammad Al-Manfi said that he greatly valued his attendance at the FOCAC Beijing Summit, which provides a historic opportunity for the development of Libya-China and Africa-China relations. China is very important to Libya, both in terms of peace and economic perspective. Libya is willing to strengthen economic, trade and investment cooperation with China within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the FOCAC, and welcomes Chinese enterprises to participate in Libya's economic reconstruction, and Libya is willing to provide a favorable environment for this. Libya firmly adheres to the one-China principle, which will not change under any circumstances.
