On April 3, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi went to the Lao Embassy in China to mourn the passing of former President of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and former Lao President Khamtay Siphandone. Wang Yi wrote an inscription on the condolence book.

Wang Yi said that General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence to General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, extending deep condolences over the passing of Comrade Khamtay Siphandone. Comrade Khamtay Siphandone was an outstanding leader of the elder generation of the Lao Party and state, who made significant contributions to the development of relations between the two parties and two countries. China stands ready to work with Laos to promote the steady and long-term development of a China-Laos community with a shared future under the guidance of the important common understandings reached between the top leaders of both parties and countries.
