On August 22, 2011, Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang met with a delegation headed by Johnny Araya, visiting Mayor of San Jose, capital of Costa Rica. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties, cooperation between the two countries at the provincial and municipal levels and other issues.
